Worthington for Events is more than a venue—it's a family story, a tribute to vision, and a space created for memories that matter.
The story of Worthington begins with Leeland Cline, father of Donna James and grandfather to Jennifer and Jarrett James. A man known for his creativity, craftsmanship, and attention to detail, Leeland played an essential role in constructing what was once the beloved Crab Trap II restaurant in 1985. He had a vision—not just of a building, but of an experience. He built scaffolding along the property line to find the perfect lake view and designed the space with tiered seating so every guest would feel seen.
His passion for thoughtful design and hospitality shaped every corner of the property, creating a place that was known for its Old Florida charm, eclectic Caribbean touches, and unforgettable dining.
“He built scaffolding just to envision the guest experience—that’s the level of detail he cared about.”
— Jarrett James
As the family restaurants transitioned through generations, the property changed hands—but in 2012, the James family reclaimed it. Donna James, with her children Jennifer and Jarrett, purchased the estate with a dream: to preserve Leeland’s legacy while reimagining the space for today’s celebrations.
What was once Crab Trap II is now Worthington for Events—a beautifully restored venue that honors its history while offering a fresh, elegant backdrop for weddings, private parties, and gatherings.
“We were honored to keep many of my grandfather’s clever and memorable pieces as part of our family’s tradition. Our goal will always be to take his vision above all expectations—especially for all those who want to be an addition to our next chapter.”
— Jarrett James
And the name? It comes from their roots. The family discovered through genealogy research that their ancestors were part of the War of the Roses in England. One branch led them to Captain John Worthington, who settled an 8,000-acre estate in 1675—what is now known as Worthington Valley in Maryland. Inspired by this heritage, the name Worthington felt like the perfect blend of legacy and distinction for their reimagined space.
“We could not be prouder to embrace and share our family history.”
— Donna James
